Orange and Lemon Cordial

Today we are very aware of the bad effects that commercial soft drinks and cordials have on our family’s dental health and weight.  However, we still love them as a cool and refreshing treat in summer – so with this in mind, why don’t you try our take on cordial today? Packed with vitamin C and no added sugar, our delicious sugar free orange and lemon cordial recipe was created especially for you and your loved ones.

Sugar Free and Gluten Free

Makes approx. 750 ml 

Ingredients

Orange Cordial

  • 3 oranges – Juice 150ml
  • 45g Perfect Sweet™ xylitol or to taste
  • 600ml boiling water
  • 1 teaspoon citric acid 
  • 2 tsps boiling water, extra

Lemon Cordial

  • 4 lemons – Juice 150ml
  • 90g Perfect Sweet™ xylitol or to taste
  • 600ml boiling water
  • 1 tsp citric acid 
  • 2 tsps boiling water, extra

Method

  1. To make either cordial, thinly peel the zest from the fruit and place in a glass or ceramic bowl. Squeeze the fruit and add the juice to the zest in the bowl.
  2. Dissolve the xylitol in the boiling water in a large heatproof glass jug or bowl. Add the zest and juice.
  3. Cover and stand for 24 hours at room temperature.
  4. Dissolve the citric acid in the extra boiling water and add to the cordial mixture. Strain the cordial into clean screw-top bottles. Keep refrigerated and use within 2 weeks.
  5. Use in the same way as commercial cordial.

Tip

Children may prefer a sweeter flavour than this recipe; xylitol can be adjusted, according to taste.
